More Than 97Percentage Of Americans Live A Unhealthy Lifestyle

More than 50% of what Americans eat is “ultra-processed,” meaning that they have been processed so much that they are no longer recognizable as plants. Ultra-processed foods are defined as:

“Formulations of several ingredients which, besides salt, sugar, oils, and fats, include food substances not used in culinary preparations, in particular, flavors, colors, sweeteners, emulsifiers and other additives used to imitate sensorial qualities of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and their culinary preparations or to disguise undesirable qualities of the final product.”

Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? The average American’s body mass index is barely under the medical definition of obese and less than 3% of Americans are meeting the necessary qualifications of a “healthy lifestyle.” But what exactly is a “healthy lifestyle?” According to the new study by Mayo Clinic Proceedings, a healthy lifestyle needs to meet these four requirements:

Moderate exercise of at least 150 minutes a week
A diet score in the top 40 percent of the Healthy Eating Index
A body fat percentage below 20% (for men) or 30% (for women)
Not smoking
The healthy body weight seems to be the hardest thing that people can abide by. Men are more likely to be active than women, but women were more likely to be non-smokers and have a healthy diet. The older generations had higher body-fat percentages because they were less active than their younger counterparts. So what does this mean? No matter who you are, or where you’re at in life, you’re probably too busy or tired to be able to live this “healthy lifestyle.”
