A study from the scientific journal Appetite showed that playing Tetris for three minutes can stave off your cigarette craving.

The Plymouth University researchers found that craving really on visual imagery. By having their subjects play Tetris. There was a decrease by 24% within the first three minutes of playing the puzzle game.

Video games are a lot of more fun than smoking anyway. If you don’t like playing Tetris, then pick snake or ping pong.

“Tetris reduced the vividness and frequency of craving imagery, as well as craving intensity.”


A woman learned to stop smoking by associating smoking with eating Milkbones for dogs

This may be on the more disgusting solutions but a woman would eat Milkbones every time she wanted a cigarette.

Mixing a tablespoon of baking soda with an eight-ounce glass of water twice a day for a week, then once a day the second week has been shown to stop cigarette cravings.

I read a newspaper article quoting a doctor who said to quit smoking, mix a tablespoon of baking soda in an 8-ounce glass of water and drink it, twice a day for the first week, then once a day for the second week. I had been smoking a carton a week then, or about 30 cigarettes a day. I drank two glasses on Sunday and Monday. It tasted like a flat Alka-Seltzer.

Some people even carry a bottle of the mixture and every time they smoke, rinse their mouth out with the mixture.

“On Sunday and Monday I smoked two cigarettes. On Tuesday I think I smoked one cigarette and then quit altogether. I continued to drink the baking soda concoction for the rest of that week. I don’t think I even needed it the second week. I have not had a cigarette in 20 years.”

Swap Hobbies

Do something better with your life, you lazy smoker

Smoking is just a time filler for most people. So replacing a bad habit with a new hobby can be the best way to quit.

By learning how to do a new hobby, you can feel more accomplished with yourself because you actually did something good.

“Why not distract yourself by taking up a new hobby such as learning a new language , trying a new recipe or playing a sport? Or you could get round to doing something you’ve been meaning to do for a while – clearing out your wardrobe, even cleaning the windows! Creating a list of all the things you want to do and ticking something off that list can give you a great sense of achievement!”

Piggy Bank

Pay yourself or your friends to see how much money you rack up

Every time you feel like buying a pack of cigarettes, deposit that money into a piggy bank. At the end of the month check to see how much money you actually saved from not buying cigarettes and spend it on something you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t.

Other monetary solutions are making a bet or having a smoking jar for every time you smoke. Feeling broke or paying your friends when you smoke will make you less inclined to smoke another cigarette.
