Beetroot Juice Can Lower High Blood Pressure And Decrease Risk Of Heart Attack

Health News

As you age, you may have higher blood pressure and your lower heart chambers may stiffen. This can lead to an acceleration of medical problems like diabetes, sleep apnea, coronary artery disease and even obesity. A research review from Nitric Oxide and a new study published in Hypertension found that a diet with beetroot juice can help lower blood pressure, improve oxygen delivery and improved general health of their patients.

Instead of taking medication filled with nitroglycerin and isosorbide dinitrate, eating foods rich in inorganic nitrates may be a better option for you and your body. Beetroot juice has been shown to improve exercise performance and duration. Another study by the JACC Heart Failure lowered blood pressure in people within just a few weeks by an average of 7 mm Hg.

People who have high blood pressure or developed some degree of heart wall stiffening should decide whether or not a diet with a few more beets or taking nitroglycerin for the rest of their lives is worth it.
